Getting Started: Fitment
Achieving the correct fit is crucial for optimal comfort and functionality of your prosthetic finger. Follow these steps carefully to ensure a secure and effective fit:
1. Selecting the Correct Ring Size
Measure and Select:
Based on your provided measurements, you will receive three ring sizes and two spacer inserts to fine-tune the fit.
The goal is to achieve a sliding fit with minimal resistance — the ring should not be too tight or too loose.
Fit Considerations:
If your residual limb is shorter, opting for a tighter-fitting ring may help capture a better range of motion.
For the best control, select a ring that sits securely without discomfort.
2. Positioning the Ring on the Residual Limb
Slide and Adjust:
Position the ring toward the end of the residual limb — as far away from the base of the finger as possible. To adjust:
Unscrew the screw on the ring.
Slide the ring along the linkage to the desired position.
Tighten the screw securely in the final position.
Check for Movement:
Minor play in the ring is acceptable after tightening.
If the ring becomes loose over time, apply a small amount of temporary Loctite to the screw for a more secure hold.
3. Adjusting the Palm Backplate
Positioning:
The palm backplate, where the prosthetic finger is mounted, can be repositioned for comfort and function.
Adjust the backplate’s position and secure it using the Velcro strap.
Wearing the Strap:
The strap should sit at the base of the hand, similar to a traditional watch strap.
Ensure that the strap does not interfere with wrist movement.
Joint Alignment:
Make sure the hinge joint of the linkages aligns directly over your anatomical knuckle joint.
Proper alignment is key to achieving natural movement and full range of motion.
4. Testing the Fit
Try It On:
After selecting the ring and positioning the backplate, put on the device.
Flex and extend both your wrists and fingers.
Check for Comfort and Performance:
If you feel discomfort, reassess the ring size, ring position, and backplate position.
Clearance Check:
Under full extension, there should be a small gap between the end of your residual limb and the front components.
The linkages should not be touching the residual limb.
5. Troubleshooting
Limited range of motion
- Remove the spacer insert.
- Use a larger ring size.
Difficulty actuating the mechanism
- Add a spacer insert.
- Use a smaller ring size.
Palm backplate rises too much during bending
- Remove the spacer insert.
- Use a larger ring size.
* Some movement of the backplate is normal.
